There is also an interesting story of the construction of the temple, Tulsidas ji used to go across the Ganges after taking bath every day, there was a dry acacia tree in which he used to pour a lot of Ganges water every day, gradually that tree started turning green. One day the phantom sitting on that tree said to him do you want to meet Ram ji, then Tulsi Das ji asked how can you meet me with Ram ji, then the phantom said that I can meet but before that you should meet Hanuman Tulsidas ji asked where Hanuman ji would meet, then he told that there is a Ram ji’s temple in the Karna Ghanta of Banaras, on the same side a leprosy patient must be sitting on the same side, on hearing this, Tulsidas ji immediately left for there when he was a leprosy patient. When he reached near him, he started going after seeing them. So give me darshan and Hanuman ji appeared to him here and was established in the form of an idol of clay. From or the idol is here Tulsidas ji has also mentioned about Sankatmochan in Hanuman Ashtak, Hanuman ji removes the trouble, so this place is called Sankat Mochan and the temple is called Sankat Mochan Mandir.

Tulsidas ji was a great devotee of Hanuman ji and used to worship him. Once Tulsi ji was having a lot of pain in his hand, he got angry and wrote Hanuman Bahuk, it is believed that his pain ended after writing.
